Mrs.
Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (week of March 18, 2019)
Writing-
This
week we were writing about our feelings and things that make us happy and
sad. We also brainstormed at least 10 different forms of transportation and each
picked a form of transportation and where we would take that
transportation. This writing corresponded
with our Reading Story, Max Takes The
Train. We are writing every day and
tackling new topics to write about each time.
We are trying to write more words/phrases each time.
Reading- We
have a new story this week and it is: Mayday!
Mayday! it is a nonfiction story. Our essential question is: What kinds of transportation helps us in an
emergency? Our amazing words are: rescue, pilot, yacht, sailor, mechanic,
shimmering. We will be working on
cause and effect and we will be working on where we find capital letters. We also get to explore the different parts of
a rescue helicopter. Keep on practicing
those sight words and reading together each night for your book logs!
Math- We are
well into Unit 5, Understanding
Subtraction. We have been working on
counting objects, counting how many to take away and then counting how many are
left and writing our answer. We have
been working on telling subtraction
stories and identifying a minus sign.
We also have been counting by 10s and identifying 2 and 3 digit numbers.
Science/Social
Studies- We counted down until St. Patrick’s Day and explored rainbows in our Weekly Readers. We also talked about what makes us lucky and
started a writing about that topic. We
are so excited for Spring and all of
the nice weather that is coming. We will
also be looking at the changes Spring brings.
