week of May 11, 2015

This week in class:

Math:  We have finished the Math series for this year; congratulations!  We will now begin the “Step Up to Grade 1” to continue to get our students ready for 1st grade.  The first 5 lessons include: introducing addition and number sentences, stories about joining, adding in any order, introducing subtraction number sentences, and stories about taking away.  We are so proud of your hard work!!!!

Reading/Phonics:  We will continue to review story elements of: character, main idea, and continue to review jobs of author and illustrator.    We will also be reviewing Oo, Ee, and long and short vowels.  We will discuss: fact and opinion, prepositional phrases, rhyme, telling sentences, interpreting information, and retelling skills in general.

Science:  We will finish our very last science chapter, Plants and Animals.  We are so excited to share our good news about our living plants that we are growing in school!  They are really taking off.  We have been taking such good care of them and are excited for the growth.  We will still continue to explore weather, the environment around us, animals, and the last few Weekly Reader topics of the year.

*May 11 will be Queen Day and the Wedding of Q and U.  Formal invitation to follow.

*Kindergarten Graduation will be held on May 19th at 6pm in the High School auditorium.  Due to the high demand for tickets and limited seating, each student will be limited to 5 tickets.
*No school on Monday, May 25th.
*Our Kindergarten Field Trip will be to the Hershey Zoo on May 26th.
*NSE Fun Day will be held on May 28th.
*Early Dismissal May 29th (last day of school).

week of May 4, 2015

This week in class:

Math:  Our last topic in Math is Topic 13, Sorting, Classifying, Counting, and Categorizing Data.  We will classify objects and count the number of objects in each category.  We will be using the terms: same and different, attribute, graphs.  We will be using real graphs and picture graphs.  We will also be looking at sorting the same set in different ways.  We have been classifying and categorizing in both Science and Reading, so we are looking forward to another content area for sorting fun!

Reading/Phonics:  We will be covering several topics in reading such as: main idea, plot, and drawing conclusions.  Our letters will be: Vv, Zz, Yy, and Qu.  Also, we have been reviewing nouns, verbs, and adjectives.  We have moved into our last Unit of Reading called “What are different ways of building things?”

Science:  We are on our last chapter, Chapter 4, Plants and Animals.  We will work on the fact that plants and animals grow and change during their lives.  We will look at how people grow and change too.  We will be learning about how some plants and animals live on land and some plants and animals live in water.  Our vocabulary words for this chapter are: babies, parents, tadpole, puppy, seed.  We have also been looking a little further into snakes and fun facts about their slithery creatures.
Reminders:

On May 3rd, at the Frackville Elks, starting at 1pm -5pmthere will be an Family Fun Day, A Community Effort for Friends and Family of Autism, including lots of fun activities for children.  The theme of the day is “Superheroes At Play”. Hope to see you there!

Nice job on the United States reports.  We learned a lot of information about the states and found each of them on a map.

Congratulations on taking your last Dibels test of Kindergarten.  All the hard work paid off!  We are so proud of you!!!!!!
