Monday, October 31-  Day 2 Happy Halloween!!!  AR Book Logs Due

Tuesday, November 1-  First Day of November, Day 3


Reading:  Our new story is Animal Babies in the Grasslands and it is an informational text about the grasslands and a variety of animals and their babies and we learn all of the baby names (ex. A baby kangaroo is a joey).  Please continue to review all sight words, letter names, letter sounds, and something that begins with each letter of the alphabet.  We are so excited to see that we are beginning to blend and read words and even spell them when given the sounds.  Please keep up the good work!


Math:  We will continue to compare numbers 0-5.  Please continue to practice counting to 100, writing numbers 0-20 and counting by 10’s.  We are working hard on time and money as well in our Math Meeting.  We can’t wait to start a new month in our Calendar.


Science:  We will also be continuing our Earth/Sky unit and we will be graphing the weather for one week to compare the many different weather throughout the week.

week of October 24, 2016

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter, Week of October 24, 2016

Math-  Our new topic is: Topic 2, Comparing and Ordering 0-5.  Our lessons include: more, fewer, same as, 1 and 2 more, 1 and 2 fewer, the number 0, reading and writing 0, as many, more, fewer, ordering numbers 0-5, ordinal numbers through fifth.  Please continue to work on: counting to 100, writing numbers to 20, and one to one correspondence.
Science-  We will also be starting our Earth and Sky unit shortly.  We will be looking at how weather changes, and what does the day and night look like?  We talk about the weather each day in Morning Meeting and the different seasons that happen throughout the year.
Reading/Phonics-  Our new story is: Nature Spy.   We will be working on setting within the story.  We will also work on identifying: Ss in words in the initial and final positionWe will continue to identify nouns for places and things and using Proper Nouns.  Our amazing words are: discover, spy, pod, nature, acorn, pattern.
Handwriting-  In our Handwriting Without Tears, we have launched right into capitals.  We have practiced: E, F, P, D.  B, N, R, M will be next week.  We encourage keeping your paper in place with your helper hand, holding the pencil correctly, and taking your time to try your best.  Always start letters and numbers at the top when writing. 
***Please send in the $5 for Party Money as well.  This party money is for the entire year, please send it in as soon as possible. 
***Nightly Homework- Please read a book for AR log.  Please practice all letters and sounds and sight words.  Please also practice the beginning sounds of words.  Many thanks!  AR book logs due Oct. 31.
***Hip, Hip, Hooray!!! We are noticing such an improvement in sight words!!!  We know you are all practicing, please keep up the good work!!!

week of October 17, 2016

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter, Week of October 17, 2016
Math-  We will be finishing up Topic 1, One to Five.  We will be continuing on to counting 4 and 5, counting 4 and 5 in different arrangements, reading and writing 4 and 5, and using objects to solve problems 1-5.  Please continue practicing counting to 100, identifying and writing numbers 0-20, and counting by 10s.  We will continue to identify coins and their values, days of the week, months of the year, and time to the hour.
Science-  We will continue with our fall fun and explore some pumpkins this week.  We have pumpkin stories, we will compare pumpkins, and observe different kinds of pumpkins.  We will also look at the pumpkin life cycle.  We will also be starting our Earth and Sky unit shortly.  We will be looking at how weather changes, and what does the day and night look like?
Reading/Phonics-  Our new story is: Flowers.   We will be working on comparing and contrasting within the story.  We will also work on identifying: Aa in words in the initial and medial positionWe will continue to identify nouns for places and things and nouns for more than 1.  Our amazing words are: seeds, buds, bloom, fruits, stem, petals.

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter, Week of October 10, 2016


We had so much fun at the Fall Festival. Thank you to everyone that donated or helped to make it such a special day for Kindergarten!

Math-  We are continuing Topic 1, One to Five.  We will learn to read, write, and count numbers 1-5.  Our new math words are: count, one, two, three, four, five.  We will continue to practice number writing from 0-10.  Please count to 100 at home and practice identifying numbers 0-20.

Science-  We will be reviewing Columbus Day and starting our Fire Safety unit.  We will be looking at what a firefighter does, how to stay safe in a fire, and how to prevent fires.  We had a great time at the Fall Festival this past week and learned so much about Fall!

Reading/Phonics-  Our new story is: Dig, Dig, Digging.  It is a fiction story.  We will be working on classifying and categorizing within the story.  We will also work on identifying: Tt in words in the initial and final positionWe will continue to identify nouns for places and things.  Our amazing words are: scooping, squelching, spinning, swooshing, gobbling, rumbling.

Sight Words - Please practice sight words nightly. Students are expected to read 96 words by sight before the end of Kindergarten. This skill helps students to become fluent readers.
The School-wide Book Fair will take place in the school library beginning on Monday, October 17th.
Diane Rowland, Prevention Services Coordinator for the Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol Program, will be in next week to teach us about drug and alcohol awareness.
