Week of October 26

Kindergarten News
· THis week, we are learning the letter Aa as in apple and ant. Please continue to review the letters we have learned so far at home with your child! Don’t forget to send Show and Tell for Aa in on Wednesday, October 28.

· We are continuing with Chapter 3: Numbers 0-5.

· This week, we will be finishing the story Dig Dig Digging and taking our end of Unit 1 tests for reading.

· Our pajama party was so much fun! The kids had a great time! Our day was perfect!

· This week, we will have our Halloween party on Friday, October 30. Please send your child’s costume to school in a bag. We will not be putting our costumes on until after lunch and recess.

· Monday will be Day 2 on the special classes’ schedule. Don’t forget your sneakers for Gym! Also, please don’t forget to send your child’s books back for book exchange on Tuesday!

· This week we will be learning the consonant letter Pp as in pig, pink, and pumpkin, and to celebrate we will have a Pajama Party on Friday, October 23rd from 9:00-11:00 am. Students are asked to wear their pajamas to school. Robes and slippers are optional, however we ask that students wear sneakers or shoes to school and change into slippers after they arrive (due to outside recess and the weather).

· We began Chapter 3, Numbers 0-5. We will match groups of objects to find out which groups have the same, more and fewer. We will also learn to read and write numbers 0-5 and match them to groups of objects.

· This week we will finish working with our story Julius and begin Dig Digging!

· Thank you to everyone who made our Fall Festival such a big success. The weather did not cooperate but that didn’t stop our fun. The children are still talking about their favorite activities. Thanks again for all of your hard work and time.

· October is Fire Prevention Month. We will be having a fire safety programs in school.


· We will be talking about “pumpkins”, learning about the life cycle of pumpkins, reading some pumpkin stories and maybe even carve our own jack-o-lantern! Each Kindergarten class will participate in a pumpkin decorating contest. The contest is part of Ashland’s Apple Fest being held on Saturday, October 17th. The winning pumpkins will earn an ice cream party for their classrooms. All are welcome to attend the Apple Fest. Stop by, join in the festivities, and vote for your favorite pumpkin.
· Monday, October 19th will be Day 3 on the special classes’ schedule.

This week, we will not be learning a new letter for Phonics because it is a short week. We will be doing a review of the five letters we have learned so far: Ll, Oo, Gg, Hh, and Tt.

Our theme for this week will be a continuation of
fire safety. We will also start talking about the five senses!

We will continue to work on Chapter 3: Numbers 0 to 5 next week in Math. Please continue working on patterns with your child and practice writing numbers 0-5.

In reading, we will continue with the story, Julius, and start a new story, Dig Dig Digging.

The kindergarten Fall Festival will be held this Thursday, October 15 and there will not be a rain date. This will be held outside so please keep this in mind when you are dressing your child. No shorts please! Jeans are O.K. for this day.

We may have a special guest in Kindergarten next week to talk to us about the importance of hand washing! Friday, October 16 is the Brainshow Mania assembly. It should be a busy, but very fun week!!!!

Just a reminder: There is no school for students on Monday, October 12 and Tuesday, October 13 for Columbus Day! Enjoy your days off!!!!

Week of October 5

Kindergarten News

In the upcoming week, we will be learning Tt as in tent, tail, and tie. As part of our study with the letter Tt, we are having a taxidermist come to talk to Kindergarten. Take some time to find items at home that begin with the letter Tt sound! T show and tell will be on Wednesday. Also, boys and girls are asked to learn their telephone numbers. Please practice at home!

Our theme for the upcoming weeks and October will be Fire Safety. We have many activities planned to teach the students about fire safety such as; videos, stories, and art projects. Don’t forget to ask your child what he/she has learned!

We will continue with Chapter 2: Patterns in Math. Try to find patterns around your home. Students should even try making patterns with colors, shapes, and objects. Some ideas include using buttons, lego blocks, fruit loops, m&m’s, skittles, etc…

In Reading we will continue with Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip and begin the story Julius. These books teach us about community cooperation!

The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held at the school on Thursday, October 15th with a rain date of Friday, October 16th. Parent and grandparent volunteers who have the necessary clearances are welcome and needed to help the homeroom moms with this fun-filled day! Please contact your child’s teacher and show proof of updated clearances, and we will be glad to have you join in the festivities!!!

Monday, October 5 will be Day 1 on our special classes’ schedule.
