week of December 19, 2016

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (Week of December 19, 2016)

*We will be continuing our lessons from the previous week due to the delays, Brain Show Mania, and various holiday fun* The next newsletter will be after the holiday!

Reading:  Our new story is “Little Quack” and we will be focusing on plot of the story.  Our amazing words are: duckling, paddle, proud, pond, plunged, brave.  We will also be reviewing sequence of events.  As always, we will go over all letters and their sounds, review initial sounds in words, segmenting words, and blending the sounds together to make words.  We continually review rhyming, syllables, and the difference between letters, words, and sentences.

Math: We are still working on Topic 4.  We will continue to explore 2 more, 2 fewer, ordering numbers through 10 and ordering numbers on a number line.  We have a very large number line that we can put on the floor and practice hopping from one number to another to bring this topic to life!

Science: We have mastered what a solid is and we had a fun little experiment with liquids that involved moving them from one container to another to illustrate the fact that liquids take the shape of whatever container they are put in.  We will learn about how gasses fill containers and how water can change by boiling, melting, or freezing.

***Please continue to review sight words, read and log AR books nightly, and review all letters, sounds, and counting to 100.  Thanks for all of your support!!!!
