Weeks of November 23 and November 30, 2015

There will be no written homework the week of November 23, 2015 due to the short week.  It will resume on December 1, 2015 when we return from break.  Please practice all letters, sounds, sight word, and continue to read your AR books!  J

*Below lists the topics we will be starting November 23 and continuing the following week.*

Math- Our new topic is: Topic 4, Comparing and Ordering Numbers 0-10.  We will be working on numbers to 5 and then numbers to 10.  We will be working on 1 and 2 more and 1 and 2 fewer.  We will also be ordering those numbers to 10 and working with a number line.  We have been practicing writing numbers 0-10 in Handwriting and each day we practice a different number 0-20 in Math Meeting.  Keep up the good work writing your numbers!

Science- We will continue to use our Weekly Readers to explore more topics in the world around us.  We will also be working on different dinosaur activities and reading many books on the topic that are both fiction and nonfiction.  We will continue to talk about the upcoming season of winter and what winter looks like, feels like, and what different animals do in this time of year. 

Reading- Our new story is: Jack and the Beanstalk.  We will be comparing and contrasting realism versus fantasy with our new story.  Our amazing words are: beanstalk, ogre, naughty, fad, magic, lend.  We will also identify the setting of the story and list the characters.

Phonics/Grammar- Our new letter is Ii like in Igloo.  We will be identifying the /Ii/ sound in the beginning and middle of words.  We will be listening for plot of the story and reviewing adjectives to describe our nouns.  We will be working on identifying the initial, medial, and final sounds in all words.

week of November 16-20, 2015

Science- We will be finishing up our Topic on Earth and sky.  We identified seasons, types of weather, day and night, and different land and water formations.  We will be taking our test on this topic this week, please sign and return it as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Reading- Our new story is "A Bed For The Winter" and we will be sequencing this story about a mouse trying to find a suitable home for the chilly winter season.  Our amazing words include: nest, stump, hive, meadow, tree trunk, den.  We will also work on giving descriptions for the places that the mouse tries out for his home.

Phonics/Grammar- Ii is our letter of the week and we are discussing the long and short sound of Ii.  We will be identifying words that have Ii in the beginning and in the middle sound.  We are also reviewing all letters and sounds and are putting sounds together to blend words such as: /c/ /a/ /t/ to make cat.  Please continue to review sight words.  We have identified opposites and are working on writing rules such as: a capital letter to start a sentence, a period at the end for telling sentences, two finger space between words, and read it back to make sure it makes sense.

Math- We will continue to read, write, count, identify, and order numbers 0-10.  We have also been working on our numbers in handwriting, and everyone is trying so hard to make their numbers and they look very nice!  Great job on counting to 100, we sound so good when we count in the morning!  We have also added composing and decomposing  numbers to our math meeting and reading two and three digit numbers.

Week of November 9, 2015

Math- Our Topic 3 is: Six to 10.  We will be: counting, reading, writing, and counting objects up to 10.  We will also be looking for a pattern when solving problems.  Our new pattern in Math Meeting is: AABB.  We have also added all four coins to our daily review along with counting to 100 and writing a mystery number each day.

Science- We are now looking at what we can identify in the day sky versus what you can identify in the night sky.  We will also be talking about time, time of day, and the activities that can take place in each part of the day.  Veterans’ Day is on November 11 and we will be completing a Weekly Reader activity to help celebrate.

Reading- Our new story is: Bear Snores On.  We will be comparing and contrasting realism versus fantasy with our new story.  Our amazing words are: sleep, cave, storm, winter, woods, blustery.  We will also identify the setting of the story and list the characters.

Phonics/Grammar- Our new letter is Cc like in Cat.  We will be identifying the /k/ sound in the beginning and end of words.  We will be listening for rhyme in poems and listing adjectives for sizes and numbers.
