Week of March 29

Kindergarten News

In phonics we will be working with the letter W and its sound. *Tuesday will be Wacky Hair Day!* Students may come to school sporting a wacky hairdo. Use your imagination! Wigs are permitted. On Watery Wednesday we will have some fun doing experiments with water.
In Math we will finish Chapter 10.
Our Easter party will be on Thursday, April 1 from 10:00-11:00. We will have an Easter egg hunt, a few snacks and a game.
We began testing for third marking period report cards. We are testing each child’s knowledge of letters, sounds, rhyming, number knowledge, patterns, money and time to the hour.
Graduation picture order forms came home in your child’s folder today.
Monday will be day 6 on our rotation cycle. We have art class. Don’t forget sneakers on Wednesday for Gym and library books for Thursday’s Book Exchange.

Week of March 22

Homework
Monday - Number writing practice
This week we will learn the letter Xx like the end of fox. On Tuesday we will have a treasure hunt to find the "X" that marks the spot! Please continue to practice word lists and sight words.
We will begin a new chapter in Math called Data, Graphing and Probability. In this chapter we will learn more about graphs and tally tables.
Our new reading story is called If You Could go to Antarctica. We will discuss adventures that we could have in Antarctica.

Week of March 15

Kindergarten News
This week we will be learning about the consonant letter Jj and its sound as in jump and jar. Please continue practicing writing and identifying all the letters we have learned so far. Instead of Show and Tell we are asking that students tell a joke to the class rather than show a Jj item. If you do not know a joke, you could do an internet search for kids’ jokes and riddles, look for a joke book at the library or local bookstore, or check out the Mini page jokes in the newspaper. Be prepared to laugh your way through the week!
In Math we will finish Chapter 9 and begin Chapter 10 Data, Graphing, and Probability. In this chapter we will learn more about graphs and about tally tables.
Our new story in Reading is called Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will talk about adventures we can take and discuss the characters in the story.
Spring pictures will be Thursday, March 18. Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be in April.
Wednesday is St. Patrick’s Day—Don’t forget to wear something green. It could be your lucky day!!!

After reading Bartholowmew and the Oobleck we made our own Oobleck (Gak). The students enjoyed playing with it and asked how to make it so here is the recipe.
8 oz. Glue food coloring 2 tbs. Borax 8 oz. water 16 oz. hot water
Mix 8oz. glue with 8 oz. water. Add food coloring. In a separate container, mix 16oz. of hot water and 2 tbs. Borax. Let cool. In a third bowl, combine ½ cup of glue mixture with 2tbsp. of the Borax mixture. Mix only ½ cup at a time. The two liquids will solidify.

Week of March 15

Kindergarten News

~ This week we will be learning the letter Vv as in Violet and volcano. Please continue to review the letters, sounds, and sight words we have learned so far!!!

~ In Math, we will continue Chapter 9: Measurement. We are measuring and comparing objects using things like paper clips and pop cubes.

~ Our new story for Reading is called One Little Mouse. This is a counting book about one little mouse who is looking for a new house!

~ This week is Kindergarten Registration. If you have a child coming to kindergarten next year, or know someone who does, please be sure to call and schedule a registration time for sometime this week!

Week of March 3

Kindergarten News

This week in phonics we will learn the letter D as in dog and dinosaur. There will not be Show and Tell this week. In place of Show and Tell we will present Dinosaur reports. Information about the report is in your folder today.
In Math we will begin Chapter 9 Measurement. In this chapter we will measure objects using nonstandard units (paper clips, connecting cubes etc.)
In Reading we will begin My Lucky Day. This story looks at where our adventures can take us. We will also discuss Cause and Effect.
Monday is an Act 80 Day. There will be no school.
We will be celebrating Newspaper in Education Week. Check your newspapers this week for our ad. Cut it out and bring it to school to get a treat! Also, students should read with someone nightly and check off on the chart sent home last week. Students will earn a certificate at the end of the year.
Read Across America is scheduled to be this Friday. Bloomsburg University students will read a Dr. Seuss book and teach a lesson. We will also have many other guest readers this week and next to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday.
