Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (Week of May 20, 2019)
***This will be our last official newsletter of the school year.  We will send reminders and updates as needed. ***
Writing:  We are continuing to work on our Building Writers skills.  Coming up we have: Building Opinion Writers.  Opinions writing tells what you think.  We will be sending home the Building Writers book at the end of the year and there will be writings that we didn’t get to yet, so you can write over the summer!

Reading: Our new story is: The House That Tony Lives In and it is an informational fiction story. We will be working on setting of the story.  Our amazing words are: architect, electricians, plumbers, painters, landscapers, movers.  Our essential question for the story is: Who helps build a house?  We will continue to review all letter names (capital and lowercase), letter sounds including long and short vowels, chopping out all sounds in a given word, and blending/reading words.   Please continue to read at home and talk about the stories along with practicing the sight words.  Keep up the great work!

Math: Our new unit is Unit 9, and our essential question is “How can we represent numbers to show tens and ones?”  We will explore, count, write, and compare numbers.  We will continue to count to 100 by 10s and ones as well as practice what comes next in a number sequence, identify numbers by sight, and count dots and objects in two sets and identify the number that is greater.

***We are so proud of the growth that everyone showed on the Math DIBELS.  We ran the reports and will send them home next week after we take the Reading DIBELS.  If you have any questions about the reports or need more information, please just let us know.  Fantastic job; we are beyond thrilled with all of the hard work! ***
