Week of March 25


In Phonics we will learn a new rule. When a vowel is not followed by a consonant the vowel is long and we code it with a macron.

Examples are me, hi, so.

In Math we will identify a sphere, sort coins, introduce a quarter and a dollar, and work with tangrams.

Our new Reading story is called Messenger, Messenger.  We will talk about kinds of transportation that help people do their jobs.

We will work on the skill compare and contrast.


There will be no school Friday, March 29th, March 1st and March 2nd for the Easter Break.

Report Cards and Assessments will be sent home on Wednesday, March 27. Please sign both and send back as soon as possible. Let us know if you have any questions.
Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be taken Thursday, April 4th. All students must wear a white collared shirt and girls need to wear their hair down. Every student will have their picture taken even if you are not purchasing a package. Package information was sent home last week. Please try to return orders and money before Easter break.

week of March 11


During March or April Mrs. Hull (guidance counselor) will be observed by a Bloomsburg Student learning about the field of school counseling. If any child is currently receiving group or individual counseling and parent / guardian does not want the Bloomsburg student attending any sessions with Mrs. Hull and your child, please call 874-3661 x3019.


In Math, we have been practicing left and right with the Hokey Pokey!  We are also using tangrams to review shapes, sizes, and colors along with positions.  We will also be measuring using standard and nonstandard units and making comparisons.

In Phonics, we are learning the letter Ww like in Wagon.  We will also be exploring water, the water cycle, sink/float, water displacement, and estimation with Watery Wednesday experiments.

Our new Reading story is “Mayday, Mayday” and we will be reading about a real life adventure of a rescue helicopter.  We will continue our unit of transportation and now be looking at emergency vehicles.

review w sight words, practice counting to 100, and writing sentences.
 
*“I am Reader” contracts are due by Wed. March 13.

*March 18th (Monday) we will be learning about St. Patrick’s day and will watch the 3rd parade.  Please wear something green.

Week of March 4th


Mrs. Borden & Mrs. Jones’ Nifty Newsletter

(Week of March 4-8)

We enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and Read Across America this week with many fun books, activities, and guest readers. We wrapped up the week with Gerald McBoing Boing read by a student from Bloomsburg University.   

In Phonics we will work with the letter x like in the end of fox. We will identify the initial, medial and final sounds in words, review vowels, and separate words into compound words. We will also have a treasure hunt where “X” will mark the spot!!!

In Math we will make ABBC patterns using pattern blocks, compare numbers to 10 and identify right and left.

Our new Reading story is called Max Takes the Train. We will talk about many forms of transportation. We will discuss realism (nonfiction) and fantasy (fiction).

Kindergarten registration for the 2013-2014 school year will be held during the week of March 4-8.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 4th and continue through Friday, March 8th.  Information is in your child’s folder.

We are trying to get students outside for recess as much as possible! Please be sure that your child has warm jacket, gloves, and hat!
