Week of January 28

Mrs. Borden & Mrs. Jones’ Nifty Newsletter (Week of January 28)

In Math we will work with goeboards, measuring the length of objects, pattern blocks and problem solving.

Our new Reading story is called Lucky Day. We will discuss where our adventures will take us. Our focus will be on cause and effect because when we read what happened and figure out why it happened we can better understand the story.

Please remember hats, gloves, and warm coats next week. Hopefully the temperatures will rise and we will be able to go outside for some fresh air at recess time.

Week of January 7

Mrs. Borden & Mrs. Jones Nifty Newsletter (Week of January 7)

Our new Phonics letter will be U as in umbrella and United States.

Our theme will be researching and reporting on the United States.  Your child’s state is attached to this newsletter.  They should be prepared to report on his/her state on Thursday, January 10th.  Please help your child know the name of his/her state, find three facts about it, and bring in a picture of the state.  You can use the internet if you have access. Don’t forget you can also use encyclopedias, books and your local library to find info.  The pictures can be hand drawn, color, or photocopy.

This is a good opportunity for students to practice speaking in front of others, using listening skills, and researching topics. Thanks for your help with this homework.

We will practice segmenting words, reading nonsense words, naming letters and beginning sounds of words for our DIBELS testing on Wednesday.

In Math we will continue to work with numbers 11-20. We will be counting objects and putting numbers in order. We will also identify a cup and a quart and will follow a recipe.

Our new Reading story is called Seeds.  We will talk about things that seeds become.  We will also draw conclusions from the pictures in the story.  We will continue to talk about verbs in the present and past tense.
