Week of January 29, 2018

***In Math, we have started Topic 6, Numbers to 100.    We will be looking at a hundred chart, counting by tens, and getting ready for our 100th day of school on Thursday!  We have been counting each school day and adding another piece to our puzzle and anxiously waiting to finish it on the 100th day.

***In Reading, our new story is: Rooster’s Off to See the World.  We will be talking about: sequencing the story.  We will also be learning about how to give directions and listen to directions.  Our amazing words are: world, trip, journey, lonely, horizon, homesick.

***Science and Social Studies-  We have a lot to cover in February that is coming up quickly!  Holidays such as Valentine’s Day and President’s Day will be discussed.  We will also make predictions with the Super Bowl and Groundhog’s Day and be able to revisit hibernation.

***Handwriting/Writing-  The lowercase letter formations are being sent home.  It is a great resource to keep around because that is how our handwriting program teaches the letters and it helps the students remember how to make them.

***Important Reminders-  The January AR book log is due and we will be sending home one for February.  It only takes 15 books a month to meet the goal!  Also, please continue to practice things like: sight words, all letter names and their sounds, the first sounds you hear in words, and taking apart and blending words (example- dog is /d/ /o/ /g/ and the sounds of /d/ /o/ /g/ blended make the word dog).  All of these things help improve reading skills.

***Important Dates:
Monday, January 29- Day 3 (PBIS dress down reward day)
***February 1- All money for the Boosterthon is due.  Thank you so much for supporting our school.  The class seemed to really enjoy the theme of Castle Quest and all of the activities that the Boosterthon Staff did with them throughout the week.
