week of November 3, 2014


This week in class:
 
Math:  Our topic is Numbers 6-10 (Topic 3).  We will be continuing this topic all week and taking our assessment on counting objects, number writing, and looking for a pattern.  Our new pattern for November will be an AABB pattern using yellow and brown.  We also added a fraction example to our Math Meeting using ¼.
 
Reading/Phonics: Our story is called: “Animal Babies in Grasslands” and the skill we will be focusing on is main idea.  We are also working on Pp in the beginning of words and at the end of words.  We will be working on notes as well as adjectives for colors and shapes.  We also will be working on discussion rules for a group.  Our amazing words for this story are: calf, cub, joey, grassland, pup, foal.
 
Science:  We will be wrapping up our science unit on Problem Solving by talking about how to share ideas with others.  We also have been working on making a plan and drawing the plan to solve the problem.  Last week, we made a Venn Diagram comparing the two additional units that we have covered in here: apples and pumpkins.


Reminders:

 

Please keep the sight word envelope in the folder.  We will fill the envelope with the flash cards as we introduce them in school.  Please practice those daily.  The words include: I, am, the, little, have, is, to, a, my, we, like, he, with she.

 

.Please only sign and return the paper from the Personal Body Safety Program if you DO NOT want your child to participate in it.

 

 

Please return any questionnaires for Conferences if you have not done so already.

 

Please also clean out papers in the folder as soon as possible so that it is easier for your child to pack their folders daily.

 

Please do not send Halloween candy for snack, thanks!

week of October 27,2014


This week in class:
 
Math:  Our topic is Number 6-10 (Topic 3). Please practice counting as high as you can!  We have been counting by tens in Math Meeting as well as working on reading a two and three digit number.  We also just finished putting numbers in order.  This month’s pattern is an ABC pattern using orange, purple, and black.
 
Reading/Phonics: Our story is called: “Nature Spy” and the skill we will be focusing on is setting.  We are also working on Ss.  We will be working on proper nouns as well as making a list.  We also will be listening for directions.  Our amazing words for this story are: discover, spy, pod, nature, acorn, pattern.
 
Science: We will be taking a break from the problem solving unit and working on the pumpkin unit.  We will be observing pumpkins, experiment with them, carve a class pumpkin, make pumpkin seeds, and other fun activities.
 
*There will be no homework this week due to Halloween activities.  Please review all sight words, read the fluency sentences, practice letters and their sounds, and count and identify numbers as a review.*

This week in class:
 
Math:  Our topic is Comparing and Ordering numbers 0-5.  Please practice counting as high as you can!  We just covered 0 and how it means that we have none.  We will be taking the assessment next week as well, please sign and return it as soon as possible.  THANKS!!
 
Reading/Phonics: Our story is called: “Flowers!” and the skill we will be focusing on is comparing and contrasting.  We are also working on vowel Aa.  We will be working on labeling and nouns for more than one.  We also will be listening for sequence. This is a continuation of last week because it was a short week.
 
Science: We started working on the topic “How do we solve problems?”
We will be looking at different ways to solve problems and looking at how to come up with several solutions.  Our bulletin board is also reflecting our fall interests and how we like this season.

A big thank you! for all of the parents, volunteers, administration, staff, maintenance that  helped Kindergarten with the Fall Festival.  The day was gorgeous and the activities were wonderful. A good time was had by all!

week of October 6, 2014


This week in class:
 
Math:  We will be finishing Topic 1, Numbers 1-5.  We will be writing these numbers, counting objects, and working on one-to-one correspondence.  Our next topic is Comparing and Ordering numbers 0-5.  Please practice counting as high as you can!
 
Reading: Our new story is called: “Dig, Dig, Digging!” and the skill we will be focusing on is classifying and categorizing.  We are also working on consonant Tt.  We will be working on initial and final Tt in words.  In small groups, we are working on letter identification and sight words and reading sentences.  We also will introduce nouns for places and things. 
 
Science: In our science center, we have several different kinds of gourds to observe along with a mum and acorns.  We also talk about different characteristics of fall.  We started working on the topic “How do we solve problems?”
 
 
Reminders:
 
We need volunteers for the Fall Festival.  You only need clearances to do so and this is not a PTO event.  Also, if you did not send in the $4, please do so as soon as possible because supplies and snacks need to be purchased prior to the event.  Thank you!

 Kindergarten may only shop at the school store on Mondays.  Please make your child aware that the store is only open until the bell for homeroom.
 
For the Fall Festival on Thursday, October 9, the Kindergarten students may wear gym clothes for the event.  Jeans are not permitted.
 
The Book Fair will be this week.  Evening shopping will be from 4-7pm on Monday, October 6.  Our class may shop in school on Day 2.
 
There will be an early dismissal on Friday, October 10 and no school on Monday, October 13.  School resumes on Tuesday, October 14.
 
 
 
 

Hello Spartan Family,                     I loved speaking with all of you on the phone! I sent an email with everything we talked about ...
