Please continue to practice sight words and nonsense words often.  Our final Dibels testing is coming up at the beginning of May.

 

Our Field Trip will be May 28, 2014 and it will be to the Pioneer Tunnel.

 

Graduation
will be May 20.  DVD orders are due on May 5th.
Coming Up Next Week:
 
Phonics- We will be working on the digraph oo like in book and tooth.  We will also review digraph th, sh, ck, and long and short vowels.
 
Math – We finished Chapter 12, Measurement and really did a wonderful job on the test!!  Topic 13 is: Sorting, Classifying, and Categorizing Data.
 
Reading – Our new story is called On the Move. We will discuss main idea. This is an informational text about transportation.  We will also be working on nouns in sentences, compound words, and writing an invitation.
 
In Kid Writing, we are working on adding details to our pictures, writing with 2 finger spaces, using punctuation, and writing a complete story about a topic.
 
We are reading the 4th Book in the Magic Tree House series, Pirates Past Noon.  We have also started a KWL chart with information that we know, we want to know, and what we learned about pirates.

We finished The Magic Tree House Book # 2 and began #3 Mummies in the Morning!
 
Our Egg Hunt was so much fun! We also sorted, graphed, and used jelly beans to add and subtract!
 
On Monday, high school students from the Teens Against Tobacco Program will speak with our class and play a game.
**Students may wear gym clothes!**
 
We will also have our Guidance lesson with Mrs. Hull on Monday.
 
On Friday, the high school Diversity Club will visit and present a lesson on diversity.

Coming Up Next Week:
Phonics- We will introduce voiced digraph th as in feather and unvoiced digraph th as in thimble.
 
Math – We will compare by height, compare capacities and compare by weight. We will take our Unit 12 assessment and begin Unit 13.
 
Reading – Our new story is The Little Engine that Could. Our comprehension skill is Conflict/ Solution. We will also work on identifying nouns.
 
Writing – We will work on writing a letter to a friend.

Coming Up Next Week:

Phonics- Congratulations, we have finished all of our letters of the alphabet and we will be learning Phonics rules!  Our rule is: when a vowel is not followed by a consonant, the vowel is long and code it with a macron.  We will also be working on Digraph ck like at the end of Duck.  A digraph is: 2 letters that come together to make 1 sound.

 

*Save the date: The Wedding of Q and U is used to celebrate the combination qu.  The wedding will be on Friday, April 11, 2014.  Formal invitation to follow. *

 

Math – We will be finishing work on Topic 11, Decomposing Numbers 11 to 19.  We will then start Topic 12, Measurement.

 

Reading – Our new story is called Mayday, Mayday. We will discuss cause and effect. This is an informational text.  We will also be working on asking questions, quotations marks, and using I and me.
 
 
 
Thank you for all of your donations for our PTO auction basket. The theme of our basket is car care. The auction is April 12 (shop and drop) and April 13 (auction). Thank you!
 
For the Field Trip:  If you are interested in chaperoning the Field Trip, please send in a note as soon as possible.  Also, please make sure that you have fulfilled your PTO requirements that are necessary to be a chaperone for a Field Trip.
