Coming Up Next Week:
Phonics- our new letter is the vowel Ee as in elephant. We will work on unblending sounds in words.

Math – We will continue to work on addition by acting out and drawing addition problems. We are having so much fun with this!

Reading – Our new story is Hide Clyde. We are practicing the comprehension skill Main Idea.

Tips and Tricks:
We are working hard on reading nonsense words. These are not real words; students need to apply their phonics skills to read them. They will be tested on these words near the end of the year. Example: zum, kav, mon, tam. Please practice the nonsense word sheet at home as well. They can be written on flashcards or read off of the sheet. Whatever works best for your child!

week of January 13, 2014

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Nifty Newsletter (week of January 13, 2014)

Homework for the week:

½ sheet practice and reader practice, please don’t forget to practice sight words in the envelopes as well

Our new letter is Uu like Umbrella.  We have been working really hard reviewing all sounds and letters daily and our Phonics papers are now including words that have 4 sounds to blend.  If your child is having trouble blending the words, there are still many things that you can do to practice.  You can practice identifying all the letters, making their sounds, and model blending the words.  Also, using the words in sentences or talking about the words makes your child more familiar with the words.  If you need any other suggestions or need more information, please let us know.

Our new reading story is Farfallina and Marcel.  We will compare and contrast  the characters in the story from the beginning of the story to the end of the story.  We also have been working very hard on our verbs in sentences.

In Math, we will continue to count and work with numbers to 100.  We are now working with a 100 chart.  Please continue to count to 100 by 1’s and 10’s.  Thanks for all of your help with this!

Great Job class on your Dibels testing!  We are very proud of you and all of your hard work!

Please remember your paint shirt for Art Class this week!  If you child has an old T-shirt already in their cubby, they can use that one, if not, please send one in for your child to wear over their clothes to use for Art Class.  Thank you for your time and attention on this matter.  This will be for Tuesday, Day 1.

Wednesday will be Day 2, please remember your library books!

Friday will be Day 4, Gym, please wear your sneakers!

There will be no school on Monday, January 20, due to Teacher In Service.
