week of May 8, 2017

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (Week of May 8, 2017)

Math: We will be starting our Step-Up Lessons in Math in order to be better prepared for 1st grade.  We will be introducing addition number sentences and have stories about joining to get started.  The lessons will be coming home after they are completed that will also include the math vocabulary that you can review at home.

Reading: Our new story is Old MacDonald Had a Woodshop and it is a book that we will use to focus on fact and opinion.  We will be looking at what tools we need to build things and revisit the important story elements of: character, setting, cause/effect, sequencing, and main idea.

Handwriting/Writing:  We will work on writing words that we can spell.  We will practice sight words, CVC words, and words we use a lot.  We will also be working on missing letters in the alphabet and all the sounds the letters make.  We will continue our sentence dictation and staying on topic while writing.

Reminders:
***Please continue to review all letters, sounds, numbers, counting patterns, as well as sight words.  Also, please continue to read each night and complete the AR book log as the goal is at least 15 books a month.

***Please also remember to pack a snack each day for your child.  If they would like a drink, please pack that as well.  Thank you!
