week of November 26, 2018

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (Week of November 26)

Handwriting/Writing:  We will continue to work our way through the lowercase letter formations in order to start copying words, phrases, and sentences in our Handwriting book.  We recently reinforced the concept of staying in between the midline and the bottom line for most of the lowercase letters using our large chalkboards.  Everyone followed along and wrote their best lowercase letters!

Reading: Our new story is: Little Panda and it is non-fiction. We will be comparing and contrasting in this story.  Our amazing words are: weigh, measure, healthy, bamboo, curious, explore.  Our essential question for the story is: How does a panda change in its first year of life?

Math: We will continue our Unit 2, Numbers 11-20 and then move on to Unit 3, Comparing Numbers to 20.  We will work each day reviewing number formations, counting to 100, and working with our buddies in our Spring Math program.  We have also been counting by 10’s and reviewing ones and tens place when writing what day of school it is each day.

Science/Social Studies:  We will be reviewing hibernation in an upcoming Weekly Reader and then be moving into winter characteristics.  We will also be exploring various holidays in December.

Important dates to remember:

November 26- No School

November 30- Community Involvement Night 7pm High School
