Mrs. Borden
and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (Week of November 12)
Handwriting/Writing: We have been practicing many of the lowercase
letters and they look wonderful. We are
working very hard on the carry over to when we are writing in small groups or
writing on papers in centers. We also
did a writing for our bulletin board about what we are thankful for as we
prepare for Thanksgiving. Everyone
stayed on topic and did a great job sounding out the words and writing the
letters for the sounds that they made!
Reading: Our new
story is: Jack and the Beanstalk and
it is a fiction. We will be comparing real and make believe plants and talking
more about realism vs fantasy. Our
amazing words are: beanstalk,
lad, ogre, naughty, lend, magic. We have a few
versions of the story that we can compare and contrast to find the similarities
and differences between all of them.
Math: We have started Unit 2, numbers 11-20. What we are covering in Unit 2 includes:
counting, number sense, write and represent numbers, and putting together and
taking apart numbers. We have been taking our time and working with 2 ten
frames to make the teens. We have also
been working on our Math skills everyday using the Spring Math program. We hope that you were able to read over the
newsletter sent home this week about the program and if you have any questions
about it, feel free to contact us.
Science/Social Studies: We have finally finished up our problem
solving topic and the class did a great job working together to formulate a
plan. We also reviewed Cause/Effect and
that is something that comes up in our Reading lessons a lot, so we will be
talking about it throughout the school year.
