Math- Our essential question
for Topic 8 is “What types of
situations involve subtraction?” We
will: act out number stories that involve separating 2 groups, act out
subtraction problems and record the answer, use the equal sign, subtract, and
write the difference, determine how many are left when some objects are taken
away, write and solve subtraction sentences to show take away situations,
compare 2 groups to find out how many more are fewer, use the minus sign to
represent take away situation, and solve problems by choosing addition or
subtraction. Please sign and return the Topic
7 assessment when it comes home, many thanks!
Science- We will be focusing on “What
is a mixture?” and the things that make up the mixtures. We will be making our own mixture and record
our answers. Finally, we will be looking
at the mixtures that we eat. We will be
taking our Matter and Mixtures assessment next week, please also sign
and return that one when it comes home as well, many thanks!
Reading- We will be
reading: Rooster’s off to see the World.
We will be discussing sequence
in the story. Our amazing words are:
world, trip, journey, lonely, horizon,
homesick. There is a growing pattern in this story and we
have been able to predict what comes next.
Phonics/Grammar- Our new letter is Hh like in Hat. We will be identifying initial H in
words. We also always review nouns,
verbs, and adjectives. We have been
trying to make our sentences longer by adding more descriptive words to them.
Writing- Our lowercase letters for next week are mostly vowels, i,e, and a review of u.
We will also be practicing l. We will also be working on “naming parts” of
the sentence and following directions.
