week of October 5, 2015

Math- We have just started Topic 1, One to Five.  We will be: counting 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 as well as counting those numbers in different arrangements and reading and writing those numbers.  Each day in our Math Meeting, we have been counting by 10s to 100, counting by 1s, and continuing an AB pattern.

Science- We will be finishing Chapter 2 on Solving Problems.  Great job everyone on the Chapter 1 assessment and thank you families for signing and returning it so quickly! Also, thank you for your participation in the Apple Theme Unit, it was a big success.  We have our apple graph, apple comparisons, apple writing, and apple parts on our bulletin board.

Reading- Our new story is “Smash Crash” and our amazing words are: signals, proper, perfect, dud, pirates, fabulous.  This is a story where we are identifying character and we will start identifying nouns for people and animals.  We will talk about announcements and messages and the importance of both.

Phonics-We will review letters Aa-Zz and this week’s letter is Mm and we will be identifying initial and final Mm in words.  We have been reviewing letter names in class and their sounds.  Also, we have been clapping out the syllables of words and putting syllables together to make words.  We are also identifying initial sounds in words. We are also identifying rhyming and non- rhyming pairs.
