Week of September 28, 2015

Math- We have just started Topic 16, Analyzing, Comparing, and Composing Shapes.  We will be: looking at shapes that are the same size and same shape, making shapes from other shapes, comparing solid figures, building solid figures, and problem solving with shapes.  We will continue to review 2D and 3D shapes, left and right, and other positional words (under/over, above/below, in front of/behind).

Science- We will be reviewing Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 topics of The Nature of Science and Solving Problems.  We will be talking about apples this week as well to celebrate Johnny Appleseed.  We will be graphing our favorite apples, comparing and contrasting different kinds of apples, using our senses to describe apples, and discussing various apple products.

Reading- Our new story is “Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip” and our amazing words are: bakery, park, library, fire station, post office, chaperone.  This is a story where we can classify and categorize community helpers and their jobs.  We will talk about following instructions and talking about ourselves.

Phonics-We will review letters Aa-Zz.  We have been reviewing letter names in class and their sounds.  Also, we have been clapping out syllable of words and putting syllables together to make words.  We are also identifying initial sounds in words. Please review sight words each night as well.  Thanks for your cooperation.
