Week of April 13th

Date: week of April 13, 2015


This week in class:

Math:  We are decomposing numbers 11-19.  We will learn to break the numbers 11-19 into parts made of ten and some further ones.  We will continue to: count to 100, add and subtract, sort objects, and identify and describe shapes throughout the week.

Reading/Phonics:  Our new story is called: “Max Takes the Train” and the skill we will be differentiating Fiction and Nonfiction.
Writing: We will learn what captions are and how to use them to describe their picture.
Science:  We will begin our next chapter, Living and Nonliving Things. We will discuss the needs of living things and learn about ways animals are alike and different and how plants are alike and different.



Reminders:

Next week we will focus on letters Jj, Ww and Xx.  As culminating activities, we will share jokes, experiment with water on “Watery Wednesday”, and end the week with a treasure hunt with X marking the spot! Please practice a joke with your child. They can share their joke any day next week.
-When practicing the sight words, please make sure to use the sight word cards and mix them up to ensure they are not memorizing the list!

-Please contine to review all of the Dibels skills of: letter naming, first sounds, segmenting, and nonsense words.  The last test is at the end of April.



Important Dates:
  
*PSSA testing begins on Tuesday, April 14th and will end on Thursday, April 23rd.
*Please see attached special rotation schedule. Due to PSSA testing we will not have specials on testing days.
Monday is Day 2, please return library books
Friday is Day 3, Music

*In April, the PTO will be holding a Basket Auction for a fundraiser.  We appreciate all of the donations.  Please look for our basket named “Car Care”.  It will be held April 11 and 12 here at NSE.  Please checkout the Facebook page.

Physicals will be held April 23. They will begin at 9:00. Children who have parents present will be examined first.
