week of November 11, 2014

This week in class:

Math:  We will be assessing our numbers 6-10 this week and then move on to comparing and ordering numbers 0-10.  We will revisit having one more, one fewer, two more, and two fewer.  Everyone is doing such a good job on the math and the numbers and trying so hard to have their very best writing!  In Math meeting, we have been talking about a penny and value along with the different holidays in November.

Reading/Phonics: Our story is called: “Bear Snores On” and the skill we will be focusing on is realism versus fantasy or fiction versus nonfiction.  We are also working on Cc in the beginning of words. We will be working on poems as well as adjectives for sizes and numbers.  We also will be working on listening for setting.  Our amazing words for this story are: sleep, winter, cave, storm, winter, woods, blustery.

Science:  We will be starting to introduce part of the Science Unit on Living versus Non Living things in order to coincide with our Reading lessons on Fiction versus Non Fiction.  We will work on this all week before moving into a Weather Unit.

Reminders:

Please keep the sight word envelope in the folder. Please practice those daily.  The words include: I, am, the, little, have, is, to, a, my, we, like, he, with she, look, see.

.Please only sign and return the paper from the Personal Body Safety Program if you DO NOT want your child to participate in it.

Please also clean out papers in the folder as soon as possible so that it is easier for your child to pack their folders daily.

Please do not send Halloween candy for snack, thanks!

We will be having Library again on Monday, November 17.  We missed the last 2 classes due to the Halloween party/parade and the Kindergarten reward for the Positive Behavior Support Plan.

Please return the AR books in the book bag each day along with filling out the Reading Log for each book.  We will explain more at conferences if there are questions.

Please sign and return any assessments that were previously sent home if you did not do so already.  We do use them to monitor progress and keep them to refer to throughout the marking period.
