week of October 27,2014

This week in class:

 

Math:  Our topic is Number 6-10 (Topic 3). Please practice counting as high as you can!  We have been counting by tens in Math Meeting as well as working on reading a two and three digit number.  We also just finished putting numbers in order.  This month’s pattern is an ABC pattern using orange, purple, and black.

 

Reading/Phonics: Our story is called: “Nature Spy” and the skill we will be focusing on is setting.  We are also working on Ss.  We will be working on proper nouns as well as making a list.  We also will be listening for directions.  Our amazing words for this story are: discover, spy, pod, nature, acorn, pattern.

 

Science: We will be taking a break from the problem solving unit and working on the pumpkin unit.  We will be observing pumpkins, experiment with them, carve a class pumpkin, make pumpkin seeds, and other fun activities.

 

*There will be no homework this week due to Halloween activities.  Please review all sight words, read the fluency sentences, practice letters and their sounds, and count and identify numbers as a review.*

 

 

 

Reminders:

 

Please keep the sight word envelope in the folder.  We will fill the envelope with the flash cards as we introduce them in school.  Please practice those daily.  The words include: I, am, the, little, have, is, to, a, my, we, like, he.

 

Information went home for the Parent/Teacher conferences to be held in November.  Please send back the information by Monday, October 27.  Time confirmations will be sent home the following week.

 

Art shirts and extra clothes may be labeled and left in cubbies for the year in case they are needed.

 

Please sign and return any assessments that were previously sent home if you did not do so already.  We do use them to monitor progress and keep them to refer to throughout the marking period.

Monday is Day 3, Music

 

* October 27, Parent Information Meeting at Elementary Library 6pm

*October 28, Tuesday, Vision Screenings will be held in school

*October 29, 1^st Day of the 2^nd Marking Period

*October 31, Halloween Parties at school Please send in money if you have not done so already.

 

Please send costumes in a labeled bag and please no weapons or props.  Also please remember that there can’t be fancy make-up or hair done in school due to the fact that the whole class must be dressed in a short amount of time.  Thanks!
