week of September 29, 2014

This week in class:

Math:  We will be working on Topic 1, Numbers 1-5.  We will be writing these numbers, counting objects, and working on one-to-one correspondence.  We will also continue to review shapes (2D) and colors with some of our independent work.

Reading: Our new story is called: “Smash! Crash!” and the skill we will be focusing on is character.  We are also working on consonant Mm.  We will be working on initial and final Mm in words.  In small groups, we are working on letter identification and sight words and reading sentences.  We also will introduce nouns for people and animals.

Science: We will be starting living/nonliving things.  We spent last week working Johnny Appleseed and apples/fall.  We will be adding pumpkins to our science center to make observations about and discuss.

Important Dates:

Monday, Day 4, Gym

Homecoming Week is this week.  Please see the pink sheet in your child’s folder for a list of activities for NSE.

Kindergarten may only shop at the school store on Mondays.  Please make your child aware that the store is only open until the bell for homeroom.

Our Hearing Screenings will be on Tuesday, September 30.

Wednesday is Day 1, Art.  Please send an old shirt that your child can keep in their cubby for their Art Shirt.  They will be painting that day, but it is helpful to keep in the cubby for the year.

Reminders:

We need volunteers for the Fall Festival.  You only need clearances to do so and this is not a PTO event.

Please keep the sight word envelope in the folder.  We will fill the envelope with the flash cards as we introduce them in school.

Thanks for all of your cooperation with sending things back to school, labeling them, labeling envelopes that contain money.  It is really helping the year run smoothly!

New calendars and menus and newsletters will be coming home for October. They contain lots of good information.
