Borden & Mrs. Jones Nifty Newsletter (Week
of February 4th)
In Phonics
we will finish up our work with the vowel Ee, and will also be learning about
the consonant l Yy and its sound as in yarn.
Please continue practicing writing and identifying all the letters we
have learned so far and sight words.
Our new Reading
story will be “One Little Mouse!” by Dori Chaconas. It will be a rhyming/concept story and we
will review the comprehension skill, sequence.
Look for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.
In Math we
will be copying line segments, shapes, and designs on a Geoboard, ordering
objects by length and measuring length using nonstandard units, making an ABC
pattern using pattern blocks, and acting out some stories using teddy bear
counters.
Students had a
great time celebrating the 100th day of Kindergarten! Ask your child
about all the fun things we did with the number 100!
Saturday, Feb. 2nd
is Groundhog’s Day. Check to see if Phil
sees his shadow and whether or not there will be 6 more weeks of winter or an
early spring! We did activities and read many books and about Groundhog’s Day
this week.
Scholastic book
orders for the month of
February are due on Monday, February 4th.

Upcoming Events
On Thursday,
February 14th we will be having our Valentine’s
party from 2:00-3:00. Valentines
will be shared at the party, so have them to school before then! A list was
sent home earlier in the week.
Students will
participate in “Jump Rope for Hearts” on Wednesday, February 13th. This
will NOT count as a day in our specials rotation.
February
11th-14th is Anti Bullying week.
Students are encouraged to participate in the following theme days:
Feb. 11th, Monday:
Don’t Knock it, Sock it!—wear crazy socks
Feb. 12th,
Tuesday: Hats off for no bullying—wear crazy hats or crazy hair
Feb. 13th,
Wednesday: Show that you’re a Spartan –-wear NSE shirts
