week of May 6, 2019

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (Week of May 6, 2019)
Writing:  We have been writing and building Informative Writers.  We are going to work on “what is it for” as well as “describing cheese”.  In addition to building Informative Writers, we are continuing to write in our Journals for Morning Work.  We are so proud of you for staying on topic and chopping out the words to write.

Reading: Our new story is: Building Beavers and it is an informational story. We will be working on main idea of the story.  Our amazing words are: beaver, paddle, stream, lodge, river, lake.  Our essential question for the story is: How do beavers build their homes?  We will continue to review all letter names (capital and lowercase), letter sounds including long and short vowels, chopping out all sounds in a given word, and blending/reading words.  We will also work on word families and rhyming words.  Please continue to read at home and talk about the stories along with practicing the sight words.  Keep up the great work!

Math: Our new unit is Unit 9, and our essential question is “How can we represent numbers to show tens and ones?”  We will explore, count, write, and compare numbers.  We will continue to count to 100 by 10s and ones as well as practice what comes next in a number sequence, identify numbers by sight, and count dots and objects in two sets and identify the number that is greater.

Science/Social Studies: Our Weekly Reader explored the 5 senses and how we can use them in our real world.  We are also continually reviewing what it means to be a good citizen and how to follow the SPARTY way all the way to the very last day.
