Mrs. Borden
and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (Week of May 13, 2019)
***Happy
Mothers’ Day!!!***
Writing: We will be writing about places such as rainforests and deserts. We also wrote a fact that we learned from our Building
Beavers story. Everyone stayed on
topic and wrote a real fact. We are so
proud of what you have learned!
Reading: Our new
story is: Alistair and Kip’s Great
Adventure and it is an animal fantasy story. We will be working on main idea of the story. Our amazing words are: gathered, distant, drifting, voyage, island, aboard. Our essential question for the story is: What can friends build together? We will continue to review all letter names (capital and lowercase), letter sounds
including long and short vowels, chopping out all sounds in a given word, and
blending/reading words. Please
continue to read at home and talk about the stories along with practicing the
sight words. Keep up the great work!
Math: Our new unit is Unit 9, and our essential question is “How can we represent numbers to show tens and ones?” We will explore, count, write, and compare
numbers. We will continue to count to 100 by 10s and ones as well as
practice what comes next in a number
sequence, identify numbers by sight,
and count dots and objects in two
sets and identify the number that is greater.
Science/Social Studies: Our Weekly Reader explored the ladybug life cycle. We are super excited because we already are
experts on the butterfly life cycle. We
also loved The Grouchy Ladybug by our
favorite author, Eric Carle.
