Mrs. Borden
and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter (Week of November 5)
Handwriting/Writing: We have been working hard on writing letters
that correspond with the sound given. We
have also introduced writing CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) like
hat. We also have been stressing that a
sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with punctuation so we know when
it stops. We practiced the lowercase
alphabet one time in our Handwriting books, but will wait until after we
introduce all of the lowercase letters to send home a copy of that one.
Reading: Our new
story is: A Bed for The Winter and it
is a nonfiction story. Our weekly
essential question is: “What kind of home does an animal need?” We will also be
sequencing the story. Our amazing words
are: nest, meadow, stump, tree trunk,
hive, den. We will be able to
compare the animals in this story to the animals in last week’s story (Bear Snores On) and see how the animals
are different in a fiction story vs. a nonfiction story and also see if there
are any similarities.
Math: We will continue our unit on 2D
and 3D shapes. We have identified and
listed the features of plane shapes (triangle, square, rectangle, circle, oval,
hexagon, rhombus, and trapezoid) and have moved on to finding 3D shapes in real
life (cube, cone, sphere, cylinder, rectangular prism). We will continue to work on our math skill
practice of identifying a number (1-10) and drawing the correct number of
circles in order to increase our fluency with this skill.
Science/Social Studies: We will be problem solving in Science along
with touching on November holidays of: Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving. We continually review citizenship in school
with reinforcement of the SPARTY way.
