week of December 15, 2014

This week in class:

Math:  We have just introduced Topic 5, Numbers to 20.  Our essential question will be: How can numbers to 20 be counted, read, and written.  We have been counting daily and using the calendar to introduce the teen numbers, but we will be spending more time on them now and reviewing them in this chapter.  We will continue to use more and fewer and analyze number lines in Math Meeting as well as using problem solving skills to figure out missing numbers.

Reading/Phonics: Our story is called: “Little Quack” and the skill we will be focusing on is: plot.  We are also working on Rr in the beginning of words and end of words. We will be working on using verbs in past and present tense.  We also will be working on sequence of events.  Our amazing words for this story are: duckling, paddle, proud, pond, plunged, brave.

Science/Centers: We have been working on rhyming, syllables, number words, sight words, and writing in our center rotations.  Our writing included what we can do in winter and what we do around the holidays.  We finished up our Science unit on weather/seasons/Earth and sky.
