Week of December 17

Mrs. Borden & Mrs. Jones’ Nifty Newsletter (Week of December 17)

Our new letter in Phonics will be K as in kite! We will continue to work with compound words, syllables and manipulating sounds in words. We will celebrate King day when we return from Christmas break. More information will be sent at a later date.

In Math we will match numbers to sets, compare numbers, problem solve and weigh objects using nonstandard objects.

Our new Reading story is called See How We Grow. The story follows twin girls, Samantha and Serena, and shows how they grow and change from babies to young children. We will talk about how we have grown and changed in the same ways.  We ask that every child bring a baby picture of themselves to help make the comparison!

Kindergarten will be having a Polar Express day on Friday, December 21st as a treat for the holidays.  Students are asked to wear their pajamas to school to dress like the characters in the book. Please be sure to wear shoes/sneakers and coats to school. Hot Chocolate will be served!

We will perform on December 17 for the K-2 concert at 9:30 in the high school auditorium. Hope to see you there. NO HATS, Reindeer antlers, or jingle bells, No Jeans, t-shirts, or high heels!

*The 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Band and Chorus Concert will be held in the H.S. Auditorium @ 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 20th.  All are invited to attend!!!  We will travel to the high school auditorium to watch the Elementary Band and Chorus Concert on December 14.

*Students will need to be prepared for colder weather @ recess.  Warm coats, gloves or mittens, hats and/or scarves are needed.  Recess is a half an hour and unless the ground is snow-covered or it is too cold we will try to get outside for “fresh air”.

*There will be an early dismissal for students on Friday, December 21st @ 1:00pm  Students will follow a compressed schedule. School will then be closed from December 22nd until it reopens on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Monday will be Day 1 , we have Art. Don’t forget library books for Tuesday, Day 2 and sneakers for Thursday, Day 4.
