Week of December 10

Mrs. Borden & Mrs. Jones’ Nifty Newsletter (Week of December 10)

In Phonics, we will learn about the letter R as in rabbit. We will work with compound words, syllables and manipulate sounds in words. We will also continue to review letters, sounds, sight words and blending.

In Math, we will estimate, count by 10’s, identify a dime, trade pennies for dimes, create and extend ABB patterns.

Our new Reading story is called Little Quack.  We will discuss new things that we can do as we grow and change. Our reading skill is Plot. We call the things that happen in the beginning, middle and the end of a story the plot.

Thank you to our postman for stopping by Kindergarten to pick up our letters to Santa. He promised to deliver them to the North Pole!

We will perform on December 17 for the K-2 concert at 9:30 in the high school auditorium. Hope to see you there. NO HATS, Reindeer antlers, or jingle bells, No Jeans, t-shirts, or high heels!

*The 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Band and Chorus Concert will be held in the H.S. Auditorium @ 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 20th.  All are invited to attend!!!  We will travel to the high school auditorium to watch the Elementary Band and Chorus Concert on December 14.

*Students will need to be prepared for colder weather @ recess.  Warm coats, gloves or mittens, hats and/or scarves are needed.  Recess is a half an hour and unless the ground is snow-covered or it is too cold we will try to get outside for “fresh air”.

*There will be an early dismissal for students on Friday, December 21st  @ 1:00pm  Students will follow a compressed schedule. School will then be closed from December 22nd until it reopens on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Monday is Day 2. We will have Book Exchange. Don’t forget your library books. Wednesday is Day 4 and we will have Gym. Don’t forget your sneakers!
