week of January 31

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Nifty Newsletter (week of January 31)
Homework For the Week:
Monday-Thursday: ½ sheet practice, word list practice, new decodable reader
There will be no show and tell next week, but please don’t forget your 100 small items for the 100th day on: Wednesday, February 2.
In Phonics, we will be learning Cc like in Cat. We will also be working on the rule of when to use Kk and when to use Cc when spelling words.
The rule is: we spell the /k/ sound with a K when the sound is followed by the letters e, i, or y like in Key, Kid, or milky. We spell the /K/ sound with a C when the sound is followed by the letters a, o, or u, or any consonant like in cat, cot, cup, or clip.
In Math, we are continuing to practice the numbers to 20 including putting them in order, counting, and identifying the numbers. We will also be introducing how to follow a recipe, measuring, full, empty, and identifying the quart container.
Our story in Reading is “Seeds” and we will be talking about how plants grow and change and comparing that story to how the animals and children have changed in previous stories.
This next week, we will be making predictions for both Groundhog’s Day on February 2 and the Super Bowl on Friday, February 4 for the big game over the weekend.
The 100th Day is February 2, and we will be dressing like we are 100 years old, counting our 100 small objects, and completing activities with 100 all day. It is a very special day in Kindergarten!
The Valentine’s Day party will be on Monday, February 14. Listed below is a list of the girls and boys in our classroom so that your children can fill out their Valentine’s.
