Week of March 15

Kindergarten News
This week we will be learning about the consonant letter Jj and its sound as in jump and jar. Please continue practicing writing and identifying all the letters we have learned so far. Instead of Show and Tell we are asking that students tell a joke to the class rather than show a Jj item. If you do not know a joke, you could do an internet search for kids’ jokes and riddles, look for a joke book at the library or local bookstore, or check out the Mini page jokes in the newspaper. Be prepared to laugh your way through the week!
In Math we will finish Chapter 9 and begin Chapter 10 Data, Graphing, and Probability. In this chapter we will learn more about graphs and about tally tables.
Our new story in Reading is called Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will talk about adventures we can take and discuss the characters in the story.
Spring pictures will be Thursday, March 18. Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be in April.
Wednesday is St. Patrick’s Day—Don’t forget to wear something green. It could be your lucky day!!!

After reading Bartholowmew and the Oobleck we made our own Oobleck (Gak). The students enjoyed playing with it and asked how to make it so here is the recipe.
8 oz. Glue food coloring 2 tbs. Borax 8 oz. water 16 oz. hot water
Mix 8oz. glue with 8 oz. water. Add food coloring. In a separate container, mix 16oz. of hot water and 2 tbs. Borax. Let cool. In a third bowl, combine ½ cup of glue mixture with 2tbsp. of the Borax mixture. Mix only ½ cup at a time. The two liquids will solidify.
