Mrs.
Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter
Week of
April 16, 2018
***In
Math, we will move on to Topic 10, Composing Numbers 11-19. We will make 11-19 and problem solve by
looking for a pattern. Our essential
question is “How can numbers 11-19 be
represented as the sum of 10 and some more?” Please review:
counting to 100, number writing to 20, shapes, and positional words.
***In Reading, our new
story is On the Move and it is a nonfiction
story. Our amazing words are: travel, kayak, llama, dogsled, submarine,
double-decker bus. Our essential
question is “How do people in different
parts of the world travel?”. We will
also talk about the main idea of the story.
Please review: letter
identification, blending words, sounds in words, and answering questions about
a story.
***Science
and Social Studies- We have just
started looking at living things. We are comparing plants and animals and we
will read a few books about the plant
life cycle. We will also read and
learn about Earth Day and brainstorm
ideas on how to: reduce, reuse, recycle.
***Handwriting/Writing- We dove into completing a prompt about feelings (happy and sad) and drew a
picture to make it match what we wrote about.
We will continue to encourage using our best lowercase letters and two
finger spaces while writing. We only use
a capital letter to start a sentence
or important word and always end with punctuation.
***Important
Reminders- Please
don’t forget to either send the money for
the pictures or send the pictures
back to school if you do not want to purchase them. Please also continue to check folders each day for important papers and reminders of
upcoming events and to clean out the daily work.
