week of January 22, 2018

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter
Week of January 22, 2018
***In Math, we will continue Topic 5, Numbers to 20.  Our topic essential question is: “How can numbers to 20 be counted, read, and written?”  Our new math words are: seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty.  We will be finishing this Topic this week, but it had to be continued due to the snow days.  Please continue writing numbers to 20, counting to 100, counting by 10s, and identifying numbers in print.
***In Reading, our new story is: The Lion and The Mouse.  We will be talking about: the main idea of the story.  We will also be learning about how to ask and answer questions.  Our amazing words are: jungle, nibbling, trembling, beast, snarled, entangled.
***Science and Social Studies-  We will be wrapping up our discussion on Money.  In Morning Meeting, we have been identifying coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter) and their value along with a dollar bill.  We also have been talking about what we can spend money on (a need vs. a want).
***Handwriting/Writing- We will spend some time reviewing lowercase letters and their correct formations, but we will be focusing more on copying words and sentences to increase our stamina.  We have also been trying hard to stay on topic in order to formulate a sentence to write together.
***Important Reminders- Please practice the sight words daily.  It will make reading so much easier for your child.  Please also read a book a night and log it for the January AR log.  Please continue to check your child’s folder each night and contact us with any questions or concerns.  Also, please continue to review: counting to 100, all letters and their sounds, rhyming words, first sounds of words, and writing numbers to 20.
***Important Dates:
Friday, January 26-The Boosterthon Fun Run has been moved to this day due to the snow days this past week.  Please have your child wear the blue PTO shirt that was handed out earlier in the year so that their laps can be marked on their shirt.  This is what the front and the back of the shirt looks like.  Any questions, please let us know.

Parents,
Thank you again for supporting our school through the North Schuylkill Spartan Fun Run! Our goal is to raise $10,000 for field trips, education programs, and fun day, and we need your help!
This weekend are issuing a special challenge. Visit funrun.com to see the bonus prize your child can earn simply by getting a total of $2 per lap in new pledges (or $60 in flat donations) this weekend only.
And if you’re looking for an easy way to ask for a pledge, create your very own Student Star Video by uploading a photo of your student to funrun.com. It’s a fun movie trailer starring your child! You can share it on email or social media to ask for a pledge.

Thank you again for helping our class!
PS - If you haven’t registered your child on funrun.com, search "North Schuylkill.
