Mrs. Borden and Mrs.
Jones’ Newsletter, Week of October 10, 2016
We
had so much fun at the Fall Festival. Thank you to everyone that donated or
helped to make it such a special day for Kindergarten!
Math- We are continuing Topic 1, One to Five. We
will learn to read, write, and count numbers 1-5. Our new math words are: count, one, two, three, four, five.
We will continue to practice number writing from 0-10. Please count to 100 at home and practice
identifying numbers 0-20.
Science- We will be reviewing Columbus Day and
starting our Fire Safety unit. We will
be looking at what a firefighter does, how to stay safe in a fire, and how to
prevent fires. We had a great time at
the Fall Festival this past week and learned so much about Fall!
Reading/Phonics- Our new story is: Dig, Dig, Digging. It is a
fiction story. We will be working on classifying and categorizing within the
story. We will also work on identifying: Tt in words in the initial and final
position.
We will continue to identify nouns for places and things.
Our amazing words are: scooping,
squelching, spinning, swooshing, gobbling, rumbling.
Sight
Words - Please practice sight words nightly.
Students are expected to read 96 words by sight before the end of Kindergarten.
This skill helps students to become fluent readers.
The School-wide Book Fair will take place in the
school library beginning on Monday, October 17th.
Diane Rowland, Prevention Services Coordinator for
the Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol Program, will be in next week to teach
us about drug and alcohol awareness.
