week of March 23,2015

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Weekly Newsletter
Date: week of March 23, 2015

This week in class:

Math:  We will continue Topic 9, composing and decomposing numbers to 10.  We will be making these numbers in different ways along with making the number sentences for this week.  We will continue to review sorting, shapes, more/less, greater/fewer, counting by 1’s/10’s to 100, adding and subtracting.

Reading/Phonics:  Our new story is called: “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” and the skill we will be focusing on is: character.  We are also working on Gg in the beginning of words and at the end of words. We will be talking about telling sentences and making a list.  The amazing words are: bears, cottage, middle-sized, porridge, big, small.

Science:  We just started Chapter 8, Motion.  We will be describing an object’s position.  We will also be learning about what makes objects move and how they move.  We will also be using magnets.  Our vocabulary words are: position, above, below, push, pull, fast, slow, magnet, attract.

Reminders:

Sight Words: The sight word envelopes can stay at home so they don’t get lost in the shuffle.  We have given out all of the sight words cards from the Kindergarten list.

Thank you so much for those of you who donated tissues, we really appreciate it!

A big shout out to our class for all of their hard work!   Awesome job on: sight words, letter naming, nonsense words, segmenting, and being great citizens!

Important Dates:

*Thursday is Day 2, Please return library books

In April, the PTO will be holding a Basket Auction for a fundraiser.  Our theme is: Car Care.  There will be more information to follow, but please mark your calendars to attend this fun event!  Thanks so much to everyone who has donated so far, it is looking great!

The marking period ends at the end of March and we will be starting our fourth and final marking period of the year in April.  Keep up the good work!
