week of April 30, 2012

Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones Nifty Newsletter (week of April 30) Homework for the Week: Monday-Thursday: 1/2 sheet practice Tuesday-Thursday: Reader practice In Math, we will be sharpening our addition and subtraction skills in order to get ready for First Grade. We will continue to review counting by ones, twos, and tens to 100. We will also continue to count pennies, nickels, and dimes as well as telling time to the hour and half hour each day during our Math Meeting. In Phonics, we will be finishing up our last digraph, oo like in hook and booth. We will also be ready to introduce and use the sneaky e rule. The sneaky e at the end of words (cake, concrete, bike, rope, cute) does not make a sound, but sneaks up on the vowel to make it long and say its own name. There will be examples on all of the phonics papers coming home. In Reading, our story will be Building Beavers. This is a nonfiction story about beavers building their homes. Our skill will be identifying main idea. *Please fill out and return the field trip form as soon as possible if you did not do so already.* Important dates to remember: FYI: Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd. Please mark your calendars. Monday will be Day 1. We will have Art. Don’t forget Library books for Tuesday and sneakers for Thursday.
