Week of May 3

Kindergarten News – April 30, 2010

~ This week we will be learning the voiced (feather) and unvoiced (thumb) sound of digraph th. Please continue to review all the letters and sounds in the alphabet, including the long vowel sounds, digraph ck, and digraph sh.

~ In math, we will continue working on Chapter 12: Subtraction. Keep practicing at home!!!

~ Our new reading story is called The Little Engine That Could. The story skill we will be focusing on is plot and that every story has a beginning, a middle, and an end.

~ We are approaching the end of the year testing for kindergarten and the Reading teachers will test each child. Children will need to write a dictated sentence, recognize, write, and give the sound of every letter of the alphabet, be fluent in phonemic segmentation, be able to provide a word that begins with every letter of the alphabet, and be able to use a word in a sentence. Please try at home to work on some of the areas to be tested to ensure that your child is fully prepared. DIBELS testing will be held for Kindergarten on May 4th and 5th. This will be the last time for this school year.
~ Field trip permission slips were sent home in your child’s folder. Please complete, sign, and return the permission slip form as soon as possible. Our class will be traveling to Lake Tobias Wildlife Park in Halifax on Friday May 14th with a rain date of Friday, May 21st. **Just a reminder: Students will need to wear their blue North Schuylkill T-shirts on the field trip—so be sure you have it ready.
