week of May 11, 2015

This week in class:

Math:  We have finished the Math series for this year; congratulations!  We will now begin the “Step Up to Grade 1” to continue to get our students ready for 1st grade.  The first 5 lessons include: introducing addition and number sentences, stories about joining, adding in any order, introducing subtraction number sentences, and stories about taking away.  We are so proud of your hard work!!!!

Reading/Phonics:  We will continue to review story elements of: character, main idea, and continue to review jobs of author and illustrator.    We will also be reviewing Oo, Ee, and long and short vowels.  We will discuss: fact and opinion, prepositional phrases, rhyme, telling sentences, interpreting information, and retelling skills in general.

Science:  We will finish our very last science chapter, Plants and Animals.  We are so excited to share our good news about our living plants that we are growing in school!  They are really taking off.  We have been taking such good care of them and are excited for the growth.  We will still continue to explore weather, the environment around us, animals, and the last few Weekly Reader topics of the year.
Important Dates:
*Monday is Day 4, please wear sneakers
*Thursday is Day 2, Please return library books
*May 11 will be Queen Day and the Wedding of Q and U.  Formal invitation to follow.

*Kindergarten Graduation will be held on May 19th at 6pm in the High School auditorium.  Due to the high demand for tickets and limited seating, each student will be limited to 5 tickets.
*No school on Monday, May 25th.
*Our Kindergarten Field Trip will be to the Hershey Zoo on May 26th.
*NSE Fun Day will be held on May 28th.
*Early Dismissal May 29th (last day of school).
