Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter
Week of April 9, 2018
***In Math, we will finally finish Topic 9, Composing and Decomposing Numbers to 10. We will learn different ways to make 4-10. We will learn to write number sentences to show these different ways. Our new math words include: whole, part, graph. We will continue to review: counting to 100 (by ones and tens), writing numbers to 20, 10 frames, next number, number identification, and addition and subtraction stories, as well as more and fewer.
***In Reading, our new story is The Little Engine That Could and it is a classic fantasy story. Our amazing words are: engine, tracks, passenger, roundhouse, mountain, valley. Our essential question is “What kind of work do trains do?”. We will also review characters in the story. Things to review include: all letters and their sounds, making all the sounds in a word, blending sounds together to read a word, and all sight words.
***Science and Social Studies- We have just started looking at living things and we will sequence a life cycle of a chicken. We also will be looking at plants vs. animals and categorizing both. We will discuss what living things need to stay alive and to grow.
***Handwriting/Writing- We continue to sequence a story in three steps and are working on copying from another source. We will review to write in all lowercase letters and work on spacing in between words. We are also trying to go back and review the formations of the capital and lowercase letters before the school year is over.
***Important Reminders- Please don’t forget to read nightly and fill out the AR log because you will be getting a new one for April. Also, please continue to practice sight words to increase reading fluency. If you need any more information about anything else, please feel free to contact us by note, email, or phone call.
***Important Dates:
Monday, April 9- Day 3
Saturday and Sunday (April 14 and 15)- Come out to NSE to help support the PTO by coming to the Basket Auction.
