Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Newsletter
Week of January 23, 2017
Math: After
we review our past topics and take our Topic 5 assessment, we will be starting
a new topic. Our Topic will be: Topic 6, Numbers to 100. We will learn how to count to 100 and learn
about number patterns. Our math words
are: row, column, count by 2s and count by 10s.
We have been doing many of those things to lead up to this topic. Please continue to practice counting by 1s,
5s, and 10s. We do use a 100 chart in
school to help us practice counting to 100.
We also practice identifying 2 digit numbers, for example: 68 is a 6 and
an 8.
Reading: Our new story is “The Lion and The Mouse” and
we will be focusing on main idea. We will
be talking about changing the way we feel.
Our amazing words are: jungle,
snarled, beast, trembling, nibbling, entangled. We will be continuing to explore first sounds
of words, segmenting words, letter names, letter sounds, and blending words. Practicing all letters and sounds is very
beneficial as well as taking apart words such as: cat would be /k/ /a/ /t/ and
making all of the sounds in the words.
