Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Jones’ Nifty Newsletter (week of April 18)
We have been working very hard on digraphs (two letters that come together to make one sound) including the ones using “ck” (like in duck), “sh” (like in shark) voiced digraph “th” (like in feather) and unvoiced digraph “th” (like in thimble). We have been applying this rule to our word lists and everyone is trying their very best to blend and read their word list. Give yourself a cheer!
In Math, we are working on making estimates and everyone knows that an estimate can’t be wrong as long as they make their best guess. We have been measuring things using cubes and pieces of paper. We are also working on adding and subtracting using not only numbers, but objects and pictures as well. We are also working on identifying and counting pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Congratulations to all the kiddos, everyone counts to 100 by tens! Great job, give yourself a cheer!
Our new reading story is “The Little Engine That Could” and we are working on plot and main idea of a story.
Next week we have the 6th grade science fair and we will get a chance to view the projects. We will also have an assembly with “Brainshow Mania” which is always educational and fun.
Our Easter egg hunt for Kindergarten will be Thursday morning. We will hunt for eggs with a sight word on them and then have a treat.
There will be no school on Friday, April 22 and Monday, April 25 due to the Easter holiday. School will resume on Tuesday, April 26. Enjoy the break!
