Week of May 13th


In Math we will review all concepts taught this year and continue to work on our addition and subtraction facts.

Our new Reading story is called The House That Tony Lives In. We will discuss the setting of the story and who helps to build a house.

In Phonics we will work on combination or, er and the vowel pattern rule vc’lcv . When we have a word we must separate words into syllables, label the vowels, consonants and separate the consonants with a division line.


Everyone did a nice job on their End of the Year Kindergarten test and on DIBELS. We are very proud of their hard work and progress this year!

week of May 6-10, 2013


In Phonics, we will learn digraph ee like in sheep and be reviewing all digraphs we have learned thus far. (sh, voiced and unvoiced th, long and short oo, ch)

  In Math, we will be reviewing concepts such as money (coins and their values) time (to the hour) estimating, counting patterns (1s, 2s, 5s, 10s) and addition and subtraction stories.

  Our new Reading story is called The Night Worker. We will work on the skill plot with a realistic fiction story.  We will also be working on exclamatory sentences and complete sentences.


We just took our last Dibels test of the year and we are working hard on our word writing and writing a sentence for our end of the year Kindergarten test.  Please also review letters, sounds, and words that begin with each letter.  Keep up the good work!

Week of April 29


In Math we will measure length using inches, identify halves and fourths, and create a pictograph comparing temperatures during different seasons.

Our new Reading story is Building Beavers. It is an informational text that discusses how beavers build homes. The comprehension skill is main idea.

In Phonics we will work on sneaky e words, digraph ch, and digraph ee.

We enjoyed our Brain Show Mania program on Thursday!

We are working very hard to get ready for our end of the  year Kindergarten Testing.

Please see the attached letter describing what the tests will be like and how you can practice at home.

week of April 22-26, 2013


In Reading, we are  reading Old McDonald’s Woodshop and  talking about the various characters in the story.  We will also be talking about various materials used to build things.



  In Math, we have been working on adding two groups of objects together to get a sum.  We will also be acting out addition stories.  We have now added “some, some went away” stories utilizing subtraction skills.  We have also been counting and grouping by 2’s and working on estimation and check by counting.



  In Phonics, we are continuing work on digraphs with oo like in hook and tooth.  We will also be working in the “sneaky e” rule.   A sneaky e is an e at the end of a word that is silent and sneaky that is sneaks up on the vowel to scare it and say its own name like in : cake, dime, concrete, cube, or hose.



Orders for the Kindergarten Graduation DVD’s are due by Wednesday, May 8th.  Any questions, please let us know.



  A big thank you to Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Ulceski’s students from North Schuylkill High School.  As a class project, they made a wonderful rhyming alphabet book and dedicated it to our class.  A few students came over to present the book and read it to our class.



  This week in school we will be attending Brainshow Mania and taking our last Dibels test of the year.

Wednesday is Day 4, Gym, please wear sneakers.



Our Field Trip will be on Thursday, May 23rd. We will be attending the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and  Bailey circus in Hershey.

week of April 8, 2013


We will be having our special classes in the morning all next week due to the older grades having PSSA tests.  We switched special times with them.



  T-shirt order forms were sent home this week from the Track and Field team. These shirts are being sold to benefit Mary Piaskowski. Mary is an aide at NSE and spends a lot of time in our Kindergarten classroom. Mary is battling breast cancer and needs all of our support!


In Reading, we are finishing our transportation unit with “This Is The Way We Go To School”.  Our class is now transportation experts and we will be comparing and contrasting all the forms of transportation we have covered.



  In Math, we have been working on adding two groups of objects together to get a sum.  We will also be acting out addition stories.  We will be measuring object using cubes, paper clips, and other nonstandard units.



  In Phonics, we have started diagraphs.  We wrote about them on our daily reflective logs.  A diagraph is 2 letters that come together to make a sound.  The diagraphs we have coming up are “ck” like in duck, “sh” like in shark and the two “th” digraphs like in thimble and feather.
