Week of February 1

Homework

Kindergarten News

~ This week we will be learning the letter Cc as in cat and cactus. Please continue to review the letters, sounds, and sight words we have learned so far!!!

~ In Math, we will start Chapter 8: Money and Time!!! We will learn to identify pennies, nickels, and dimes and tell how much they are worth. We will also learn to tell time to the hour.

~ Our new story for Reading is called Seeds. We will learn about different kinds of seeds, how they grow, and where they come from!

~ If you did not yet return your child’s report card, please sign it and return it as soon as possible!!!

~ Don’t forget!!! Wednesday, February 3 is the 100th day of school!!! Please dress your child like they are 100 years old. Also, they can bring a collection of 100 items that we will count by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s throughout the day!

~ Tuesday, February 2 is Groundhog Day!

~ We are still collecting money for the earthquake victims in Haiti!

~ We were informed that Kindergarten Graduation will be May 26. We will soon be scheduling Graduation pictures. They are usually taken sometime in April.

~ Monday, February 1 will be Day 3 on our rotation schedule! Don’t forget your books for Book Exchange!

Week of January 25

*This week in phonics we are learning consonant z as in zebra and zipper. Show and Tell will be on Wednesday January 27.
*In Math we will finish chapter 7. Our test will be on Friday.
*Our new reading story is “Farfallina and Marcel”. We will discuss how people, plants, and animals grow and change.
*Tuesday, January 26 students may wear a hat to school to help children in Haiti. They can do this by making a $1.00 donation. All proceeds will be donated through UNICEF.
*Mrs. Jones and I will not be in school Monday and Tuesday. There will be substitutes in for us. We will return on Wednesday.
*Report cards came home Friday. They are in your child’s folder. Please remember to sign the report card and send it back as soon as possible.
*Our Valentine party will soon be here. If you would like a head start on writing your Valentines the list is your folder.

Week of January 18

** This week in Phonics, we will learn the letter Uu, as in umbrella. Please review all the letters, sounds and sight words we have learned so far! Show and Tell will be on Wednesday, January 20.

** In Math, we will continue working on Chapter 7: Number Patterns. We are learning how to count to 100 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.

** We will start our new story in Reading, See How We Grow. The story follows twin girls, Samantha and Serena, and shows how they grow and change from babies to young children. We will talk about how we have grown and changed in the same ways. We ask that every child bring a baby picture of themselves to help make the comparison! Thanks!!!

** There will be no school on Monday, January 18, for Martin Luther King Day. We will return on Tuesday, January 19. Have a terrific weekend!!!

** It will be day 6 when we return on Tuesday. We will have Art class. Wednesday will be music. Girls, please do not wear a skirt on this day. Mrs. Schwartz is planning a floor activity.

** Thank you so much to everyone who donated crayons to our classroom! We appreciate them so much!!

Week of January 11

This week in phonics we will be learning the consonant Bb as is balloon and baby. Show and Tell will be on Wednesday, January 13th. Please continue to practice identifying letters, sounds, sight words and word lists. We will begin testing for report cards next week. Report cards will go home Friday, January 22.
In Reading, we will read Little Quack. We will talk about the new things that we can do as we grow and change. We will also take our Unit 2 test.
In Math we will begin Chapter 7 Number Patterns. In this chapter we will use hundred charts to count by 2s, 5s and 10s.
We continued to talk about the winter this week. We did a lot of Kid Writing for our bulletin board.
Our class has exhausted our crayon supply for the fourth time this year. If anyone is willing to donate crayons to our class we would be very grateful! Thank You!

Week of January 4

Welcome Back!!!
This week in phonics we will wrap up letter K. On day this week the boys will be treated like kings for the day . Girls will have their opportunity to be queens when we learn letter Q.
In Math we will finish Chapter 6 and begin Chapter 7 Number Patterns. In this chapter we will use hundred charts to count by 2s, 5s and 10s.
We will continue to Kid Write about the holidays and the fun we had over break.
In Reading we will begin a new story called Little Panda. It is another nonfiction selection that the students really enjoy!
Monday January 4th will be Day 3. Don't forget your library book for Book Exchange on Monday.
